Belcanto is located in Lisbon’s historic centre, in Chiado, in the beautiful Square of São Carlos, next to the National Theater of São Carlos and in the house where the poet Fernando Pessoa was born.

Belcanto by José Avillez opened in the beginning of 2012, totally refurbished. In that same year, it was distinguished with a Michelin star and, in 2014, it won its second star. Belcanto was the first restaurant in Lisbon to be distinguished with two Michelin stars and José Avillez was the first Portuguese chef to win this distinction in Portugal.

In 2018, Belcanto came in 75th place on “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” list organized by “Restaurant” magazine.

In Belcanto, in a sophisticated and comfortable setting and to a maximum of 28 people, José Avillez offers a revisited Portuguese cuisine that takes us on a journey in time.

From Chiado’s romantic past to the future. In a place full of details, where art and memories coexist, José Avillez offers an absolutely unique gastronomic and sensory experience.

Along with the a la carte offer, Belcanto presents two Tasting Menus, planned as a complete and integrated experience, in which a story is told in several chapters : the Evolution Menu and the Lisbon Menu. Each with its own itinerary, offering a unique journey.
