Joan, Laura and Jaume
For over two decades, the name Lácteos Palma has resonated in the island’s hotel and restaurant sector as a synonym for quality, reliability and proximity. Today, in the midst of the transition to its new brand identity, Bril, the company continues to demonstrate that the combination of family roots and vision for the future can be a formula for lasting success.
Joan Bril founded the company 24 years ago with a clear vision: “to offer the hotel and restaurant sector quality products and impeccable service”. Today, he is still at the helm of the project but with the support of a new generation. Two of his children, Laura and Jaume, form an active part of the management team: the former, in administrative management, and the latter, leading the sales department, customer relations and event development—a solid family structure that has managed to stay professional without losing the closeknit spirit that has characterised the company since it began.
One company, two names… one single identity?
Although many in the sector still know them as Lácteos Palma, the trade name has evolved over time. Although the company remains the same, the change is almost official with the brand renamed as Bril. “The company was founded as Lácteos Palma S.L. and it has been that way for years. But we have been making the transition to Bril for some time now: a brand that represents us better and that allows us to encompass all our gastronomic business lines, well beyond dairy products”, says Joan.

This change does not erase the origins of the company, which began specialising in solid dairy products—cheese, butter, cream, custard—and especially in high quality Italian items. The evolution, however, has been constant. “Working so closely with the restaurant industry makes you understand their needs. So we started to diversify from the very first moment, always attentive to what the market was asking for, trying to keep up with gastronomic trends”, adds Jaume.
And this has been precisely one of the keys to Bril’s growth: its way of understanding the relationship with customers. Beyond the supplier-restaurant logic, here we talk about collaboration, synergy, about being partners in the fullest sense of the term: “We want to be our customers’ allies, to be part of their evolution. This feedback between the two sides is what has allowed us to grow together”, says Joan.
One of Bril’s big bets has been digital transformation. Immediacy is increasingly sought after in the restaurant sector and Joan was a pioneer when, nine years ago, he launched his own application to facilitate ordering and management for his customers. Today, that tool has evolved into an even more agile system that integrates artificial intelligence. “We have developed an application that even allows orders to be placed via WhatsApp. All this digitalisation also affects the warehouse, which significantly improves speed and efficiency in the preparation and delivery of orders”, says Laura.
The effort pays off: more than ninetyfive per cent of orders placed before midnight are delivered the next day anywhere on the island. To achieve this, Bril has a night shift for preparing orders, which guarantees punctual deliveries: “In high season, customers want everything ‘yesterday’. We have greatly optimised the processes to provide this service, raising quality both in terms of the size of the catalogue and in terms of speed and reliability”, adds Jaume.

Family business, collective soul
Although it is not always easy, work-life balance is an essential part of Bril’s DNA. This they manage naturally, with equilibrium and, above all, strong values. “For me, the most important thing is that we never feel alone. Being a family business, having the support of my children—and of a team to whom I can delegate—gives me enormous strength, which shows in the final result”, says Joan. Jaume and Laura are not newcomers. Both have been involved in the project for more than a decade. “We have grown up here. We know every corner, every process. It’s something very natural for us”, notes Laura.
With a consolidated team, a structure that allows us to delegate with confidence and a firm commitment to innovation, Bril has established itself as a company ready to continue leading the restaurant sector in Mallorca, without ever forgetting its family roots and its commitment to excellence. “I always say that family comes before any business. That is the value that guides us”, concludes Joan.
