In 1987, Jacques Noris, a French wine enthusiast who lived in Mallorca, created Redivins, a wine distribution company that would bring the finest wines from Spain and France to the island. Redivins soon became an agent for Ballande et Méneret, one of the three largest wine merchants in France, a nation celebrated for its wine, and began to import their products.
After more than three decades at the head of the company, Noris passed the baton to Joan Mut who took over as owner in 2017 when Noris decided it was time to retire. They had known each other for years because both of their careers had been linked to the wine world: Noris saw himself reflected in Mallorcan-born Mut, and felt he was someone who would give a sense of continuity to Redivins, the company he’d spent his life creating.
Today, Redivins is a representative and distributor across all the Balearic Islands with a catalogue that features between 700 and 1,000 labels, including many of the most award-winning wines in the world. As Joan Mut proudly explains: “We’re tremendously lucky to work with the great Spanish and international wineries and to represent them on the islands.”
Consulting, personalisation and training
But, we asked Mut, what makes Redivins different from other wine distributors? Mut doesn’t hesitate to reply: “At Redivins our strength is the wide range of great French wines that we represent, and our consulting-orientated sales model. We offer a personalised service so that, given the complex nature of our wines, they can be selected to suit the food of each of our clients. Or, to put it another way, we personalise our sales.”
What’s more, the Mallorcan distributor has created Win-e, an in-person training programme that uses new technology and short, Instagram-style videos to support restaurant teams by providing them with learning tools for essential areas such as wine table service and sales techniques.
From good to great
Redivins Import has a catalogue that naturally includes, given the company’s specialisation in great French wines, one of the most prestigious sparkling wines produced in the world-famous Champagne region: Pol Roger. It’s among the most acclaimed champagnes on the market and produced in one of the last family houses in the Champagne region to still independently make wine after five generations, since 1849. Redivins is its exclusive distributor.
What’s more, fans of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) will discover a true gem in Redivins’ portfolio: Auvocassa EVOO, a zero-kilometre olive oil produced on a Manacor estate that belongs to celebrated Bodegas Roda in La Rioja, which is also represented by Redivins.
