MARÉ is José Avillez's new restaurant in Guincho, overlooking the sea and with a cuisine based on the unique flavour and freshness of Portuguese fish and seafood.

With a relaxed atmosphere, ocean-inspired décor and privileged location, the restaurant is integrated into Guincho’s natural landscape, in complete touch with nature - the perfect setting to enjoy the specialties of the Raw Bar, such as the Marinated meagre with red onion and avocado, and irresistible dishes such as the Scarlet Shrimp, Crab and Clam Rice, the Royal Seafood platter, the Butterflied Scarlet Shrimp with Maré Sauce or simply the best charcoal-grilled seafood and fish, among many other options.

"I think we have the best fish and seafood in the world in Portugal, with great quality and absolutely unique taste and texture. At MARÉ, we celebrate this Portuguese gastronomic tradition and our historical connection to the ocean”, says José Avillez.

And even though fish and seafood rule the menu at MARÉ, that doesn’t mean meat dishes “From the Frying Pan,” such as the Sirloin, Café style sauce and French fries or the Veal Steaks, mustard and caper sauce, black rice and French fries are not absolute must-tries.

And to top it all off, delicious desserts such as Toucinho-do-céu (almond and egg dessert) with pine nuts and raspberry sorbet, Maré’s Chocolate Cake or "Living the cream: Fruit or Chocolate?" - ice creams and sorbets.

The new restaurant has two rooms and two terraces facing the sea. The interior design, signed by Anahoryalmeida studio, includes several elements evocative of the ocean, such as the tile panels that bring the seabed to mind and which were made and painted in the renowned Viúva Lamego factory, following an illustration by artist Henriette Arcelin.

A 3-meter wooden hanging ray, by Luis Gallego, and ceramic sculptures of fish and seahorses, by Studio Bongard, are also striking decorative pieces in the new MARÉ.
